HomeBlog A Comprehensive Guide to Abu Dhabi Toll Gate Registration
The Abu Dhabi toll gate system, also known as the Darb toll gate system, was introduced by the Department of Transport in 2018.
Similar to the Salik system in Dubai, it is an automatic payment system that charges tolls as vehicles pass through the gates. In this comprehensive guide, we will walk you through the step-by-step process of registering for the Abu Dhabi toll gate, whether you own a private car or a company-owned vehicle. We will cover all the necessary documents, procedures, and exemptions, ensuring that you have a hassle-free experience. So, let's get started!
The Abu Dhabi toll gate system aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on the roads by implementing toll charges during peak hours. The toll gates are located on four bridges in Abu Dhabi: Al Maqta Bridge, Musaffah Bridge, Sheikh Zayed Bridge, and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Bridge. All drivers in the capital city are required to have Abu Dhabi toll gate registration to pass through these gates.
To register your private car for the Abu Dhabi toll gate, you need to follow a simple step-by-step process. Here's what you need to do:
Before starting the registration process, make sure you have the following documents and information ready:
- Emirates ID
- Active phone number and email ID
- Car's number plate
- Credit/Debit card details
To begin the registration process, visit the DARB toll website or download the DARB mobile application from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
Select the option to create a new account and choose the service type "Individual".
Enter your valid email address and submit it. You will receive a One Time Password (OTP) on your email address.
Enter the OTP received on your email address and proceed with the registration process.
Select the emirate where your vehicle is registered and enter your Traffic Code Number.
Choose your registered mobile phone number and enter the OTP sent to your phone.
Enter and confirm your desired password to complete the registration process.
Once you confirm the password, your Abu Dhabi toll gate registration is complete. You can now activate your account, register your vehicle, and top-up your DARB wallet using the account.
Please note that there is a registration fee of AED 100, out of which AED 50 will be added to your wallet as a starting balance for your DARB toll gate account.
If you own a company or have commercial vehicles, the registration process for the Abu Dhabi toll gate is slightly different. Here are the steps to follow:
Visit the DARB toll website and select the service type "Establishment" to create a new account.
Enter your valid email address and submit it. You will receive a One Time Password (OTP) on your email address.
Enter the OTP received on your email address and proceed with the registration process.
Enter the establishment's traffic code number and select your registered mobile phone number. Enter the OTP sent to your phone.
Enter and confirm your desired password to complete the registration process.
Provide the necessary information about the establishment, including a copy of the company's trade license (if applicable) and a signed letter on company letterhead with details such as the company representative's email address, mobile number, and Traffic Code Number (TCN).
Submit the registration form along with an excel sheet listing the vehicles you wish to activate in the system, including the license plate number, code/color, source, and category.
Once the relevant authorities review your registration, your company cars and commercial vehicles will be registered for the Abu Dhabi toll gate system.
After completing the registration process, the next step is to activate your Abu Dhabi toll gate account. Here's how you can do it:
Log in to your account via the DARB toll website or the Abu Dhabi toll gate app.
Select the "Register Vehicle" tab on your dashboard and enter the details of your vehicle(s).
Choose your preferred payment method, either credit card or Amwal Wallet.
Select your wallet and click "Pay" to complete the transaction and activate your account.
If you have multiple vehicles, repeat the process for each vehicle to register and activate your DARB tolling gate system account.
It's essential to understand the toll charges and exemptions associated with the Abu Dhabi toll gate system. Here are the key points:
- The toll fees are charged at AED 4 only during peak hours, which are Monday to Saturday from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
- No toll charges apply during non-peak hours, Sundays, and public holidays.
- The maximum charge per day for private vehicles is AED 16.
- There is a monthly cap of AED 200 for the tolls of the first vehicle in a family and AED 150 for the tolls of the second vehicle.
Certain categories of people and vehicles are exempt from toll gate charges, including senior Emirati citizens, retired Emirati citizens, people of determination, ambulances, army vehicles, public transport, police vehicles, Abu Dhabi licensed taxis, school buses, motorbikes, and towed vehicles.
The Abu Dhabi toll gates are located on four bridges: Al Maqta Bridge, Musaffah Bridge, Sheikh Zayed Bridge, and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Bridge.
Even if you belong to one of the exempted categories, such as senior Emirati citizens or people of determination, Abu Dhabi Salik registration is still required. To apply for exemption, log in to your DARB account and submit a request for exemption, providing the necessary documents and vehicle details.
Anyone who owns a registered vehicle outside of Abu Dhabi and has a valid Emirates ID can register for the Abu Dhabi toll gate system. The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) urges all motorists to create an account to ensure a smooth experience while passing through the toll gates.
In conclusion, registering for the Abu Dhabi toll gate is a straightforward process that requires a few essential documents and following the step-by-step instructions. Whether you own a private car or a company-owned vehicle, the DARB tolling system provides a convenient online platform for registration and account management. By understanding the toll charges and exemptions, you can have a seamless experience while driving through Abu Dhabi. Remember to comply with the registration requirements and enjoy a hassle-free journey on the roads of Abu Dhabi.
